THE LICHTER FILM AWARDS

The winners of the best feature and the best short film of the competition can look forward to one of our legendary white Bembel – not only because it is so decorative and well shaped. Thanks to the generous support of our partners, instead of containing the “Stöffche” [N.B.: stuff, substance – hessian coll. for apple wine], the Bembel will be filled with vouchers and prizes to assist the creatives in the realisation of new projects. Already, we are excited about the new ’stuff’ that will be produced.
The MBF Award for the best feature film includes a voucher for technology over 4,000 € at MBF Filmtechnik and 500 € in cash. The best short film can look forward to 500 € in cash, participation in the screenplay camp in Frankfurt (sponsored by Hessische Filmförderung) and two seminar vouchers from the Filmhaus Frankfurt.

New this year is the LICHTER Audience Award. In the running for the prize of 2,000 €, donated by BINDING Adler, are all regional and international feature films which have not yet been shown in a cinema.
In addition, we are hosting this year the LICHTER Art Award for the second time.

PIA MARAIS

Pia Marais, born in 1971 in Johannesburg, is a director from Berlin. After completing her filmstudies in Berlin she was involved in several movie projects until she finally landed in the director’s chair herself. At LICHTER in 2011, Marais won the MBF Award for the best feature film with her film “Im Alter von Ellen.“ Now she is back with her new work – the Berlinale competition film “Layla Fourie“ – for which the funding was used. The LICHTER family is happy that it could make a modest contribution to this production, and win Marais for the jury.

FLORIAN KOERNER VON GUSTORF

Florian Koerner von Gustorf, born 1963 in Darmstadt, is a film producer and drummer of the Berlin cult band “Mutter“. He was involved in numerous outstanding German productions: Gespenster, Yella, Barbara (directed by Christian Petzold), Dorfpunks (directed by Lars Jessen) and Lucy (directed by Henner Winckler) are just a few, which should be kept in good memory for posterity. Recently, at the Berlinale 2013 “Gold“ celebrated its premiere, a Western about ethnic German immigrants in Canada.

Bert Redbahndl

Bert Rebhandl, born in 1964 in Kirchdorf an der Krems (Austria), is a journalist and film critic. He studied German literature, philosophy and Catholic theology at the University of Vienna, and is now living in Berlin as a freelance journalist (e.g. Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Berlin newspaper TAZ) and a lecturer. He is co-founder and co-editor of CARGO film / media / culture.

THE BEMBEL TROPHY

The LICHTER Bembel was created by the pottery workshop Maurer from Frankfurt. The LICHTER team approached the traditional pottery in 2008 with the revolutionary, almost heretical idea, to open a new chapter in the history of pottery in Frankfurt by creating a classic bembel in black. Whilst it was easy to meet this ambition productionwise, a white bembel posed bigger problems for the experts. However, the pottery got the taste for this idea and continued to experiment with the glaze and the firing technique beyond the festival of 2008. Since 2009, LICHTER can finally present the unique white bembel.
